Once again we gather together for the season of Advent, watching and waiting, preparing for the coming of Emmanuel. This year, we are following the Narrative Lectionary readings for the season, which will feel a little different for some folks. We’ll start Advent on Sunday, Dec. 1st reading from Daniel and his experience in the lion’s den. Then on the Second Sunday of Advent, Dec. 8th, we will hear God promising to send the Spirit, in a reading from Joel. On the Third Sunday of Advent, Dec. 15, we’ll hear from another prophet, this time Isaiah, who will help us remember to watch for God’s presence doing bold things among us. And on the Fourth Sunday of Advent, Dec. 22nd, we’ll finally find ourselves with Mary, from Luke’s Gospel, reading her story of surprise and faithfulness.
Throughout the season, we hope to have special music and experiences with the stories and with one another, so that we might welcome God’s presence, as it is arriving, again and again, together.
And yes, we’ll have a Christmas Eve service on Tuesday, Dec. 24th at 7pm in person and online. Do let us know if you’ll be around and if you’d like to share in worship leadership in some way.
